Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. transferred over the first order of machinery to its daughter company KRAS in Hyderabad, India on Thursday during a special ceremony held in the construction plant in the city. The order was the first part of a $100 million order for thousands of complex pieces of eclectic engineering that will be used to construct the Barak 8 anti-missile air defense system.
The Barak 8 is an Indian-Israeli surface-to-air missile (SAM), designed to defend against any type of airborne threat including aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, and UAVs, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and combat jets.
The missile was developed in partnership between Refael industries and India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) as well as other companies.
Rafael is a secondary weapons developer and provided for the India military and airforce. The Barak 8 systems will be created in India and will be delivered to the Indian military for use.
