After a number of years and much criticism surrounding the system compelling avreichim and bnei torah to report to IDF induction centers to receive their deferment, the new agreement with the Vaad Yeshivos, beginning on Thursday, August 8, 2019, has good news for avreichim who have reached their 24th birthday.

These avreichim will receive a letter from the IDF at their homes, the draft exemption letter telling them they are no longer required to serve in the IDF, Kikar Shabbos is reporting.

This new arrangement is a precedent, and it means once an avreich is 24, the exemption letter will be sent to his home address. Many avreichim have already received the letter on Thursday morning.
