Agents of the ISA (Israel Security Agency/Shin Bet) working with other security forces arrested members of a Hebron terrorist cell, thereby preventing a bomb attack in Jerusalem.
A number of terror cells have been uncovered in recent weeks, terrorists affiliated with the military wing of Hamas in Gaza, planning terrorist attacks in Israel as well as against PA (Palestinian Authority) targets.
As a result of ISA interrogation, the Hebron cell was uncovered, beginning with the arrest of 22-year-old Rajach Rajbi in June 2019. He is known as an active member of the ‘al-Kutla Alasamia’ wing of Hamas. The members of this branch of Hamas represent the future generation of terrorists, and it is evident that efforts are being made within the framework of their membership to radicalize their ideological attitudes and perceptions as terrorists.
When the suspect was arrest, he revealed an IED weighing three kilograms (6.6 pounds) which was attached to metallic pieces intended to maximize the carnage of the IED explosion.
His arrest led to additional arrests, thereby preventing an attack in Jerusalem and other areas.
After the ISA released the announcement of the foiled attacks, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu commented, “I commend the ISA, IDF and Israel Police forces for the operational-intelligence effort that led to the thwarting of a terrorist attack that Hamas planned to carry out on our territory.
“Our enemies should know that our long arm will reach whoever tries to attack us.”
