The reverberations of MK Yair Lapid’s extremely controversial election campaign video continue to elicit responses, including from the chairman of the Central Election Committee, retired justice Chanan Meltzer.
Shas brought the matter to the attention of the Central Election Committee, and Justice Meltzer has instructed MK Yair Lapid to explain his actions and the video by noon on Wednesday.
In its petition to the election committee, Shas called the video “a racist message that seeks to damage the fabric of life”. Shas is seeking an injunction compelling Lapid to take down the video which he posted on his twitter account.
Shas also maintains that the video expresses a racist message that seeks to damage the common fabric of life in the State of Israel among the various ‘tribes’ which has a real potential for incitement and harm to the chareidi public and goes beyond the accepted and permitted political message.
