Israeli Traffic Police have recently begun to enforce punitive measures for traffic violations in which motorcycles cross into or through designated separation areas and shoulder infractions on Highways
The new level of enforcement comes after an extended period of time in which these types of driving habits have caused numerous accidents involving motorcycles especially. Motorcyclists are far more exposed and likely to sustain serious injuries and death when an accident occurs. They are particularly exposed in these areas.
According to statistics compiled and published by the police, 10 people have already been killed in accidents in these types of accidents and 64 people have been seriously injured.
Police officers are being stationed on Highways where a multitude of accidents have occurred over the past few months and are placing a special emphasis on handing out punitive measures such as tickets and demerit points to motorcyclists who cross through separation areas or shoulders in an illegal manner. Officers are using both marked and unmarked police vehicles as well as a wide range of technological apparatus in order to catch those who transgress the law and endanger themselves and the drivers around them.
A statement issued by the police stated that the heightened level of enforcement will be in place for the foreseeable future in an effort to diminish the number of casualties caused by divers who transgress these laws.
