In response to his efforts to interfere in the chareidi education in Petach Tikvah, releasing a regulation that the Beis Yaakov run by Rav Hildesheimer may not accept girls from outside of Petach Tikvah, Gedolei Yisrael has released a letter against Mayor Rami Greenberg and his actions vis-à-vis chareidi education in the city. It is pointed out that the new regulation from City Hall prohibiting schools from accepting students who live in other cities applies to all schools, not just those run by the chareidi sector.
In a letter that was written by Maran HaGaon HaRav Aaron Yehuda Leib Shteinman ZT”L ZY”A and HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita in 5776, the Gedolei Yisrael pointed out the authority for accepting or refusing students is in the hands of the seminary principal and no one else, citing “There is no outside source like the Ministry of Education, City Hall, council leaders, or any other source in an authority, who may become involved in the matter.
“באנו בזאת לגלות את דעתנו מקדמת דנא, שהסמכות וההחלטה לקבלת תלמידות, הינן של מנהלי הסמינרים בלבד ואין לשום גורם חיצוני כגון משרד החינוך, עיריות, ראשי מועצות או כל גורם רשות כל שהוא להתערב בדבר, וכך הייתה דעתם של מרנן הרב שך והרב אלישיב זצוק”ל, שהתערבות של גורם חיצוני הוא חורבן החינוך”.
As a result of Greenberg’s new policy, HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita and HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein Shlita have signed a new letter saying the same thing.
In the Tuesday morning edition of Yated Neeman, the newspaper attacks Greenberg and members of Shas in the city, who are members of Greenberg’s coalition.
