MK Maklev Calls To Amend Regulations To Prevent Leaving Children In Vehicles

MK Uri Maklev responded immediately following the latest tragedy of a child left alone in a parked car. In this case, in Modi’in Illit, an infant R”L died as a result of being left in a parked vehicle for hours.

Maklev sent a letter to Transportation Minister Betzalel Smotrich, calling him to amend regulations to require vehicles to come equipped with a device that would alert the driver tof a child remaining in the parked vehicle. Maklev heads the Knesset Technological Committee, which has already probed the matter and made recommendations, which he points out are not being adopted by the Transportation Ministry.

“I turn to you to change the policy of the Transportation Ministry and to once again examine positively the amendment of the traffic regulations so that every driver who drives his car with children will be required to install a system to prevent forgetting children inside. In view of the importance and urgency of the matter, I urge you to adopt these points for immediate implementation” he wrote.

  1. Great idea but the technology is simple, relatively low cost and should be adopted universally by auto makers. Perhaps there even is a low-cost retrofit option for older cars.
