Gilo Construction Moving Up, Literally

The Jerusalem District Planning Committee has approved the plan for the construction of 216 residential units in the southern Gilo neighborhood of the capital.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon says “This is another significant step for the young people of the city. We will continue to increase the housing supply in the various neighborhoods and at the same time, open new infrastructure for young families.”

The committee gave its stamp of approval for the construction of two 18-story buildings at the entrance to Gilo. The two buildings will contain 216 apartments.

The actual plan was approved a year ago by the municipality, and from there, it was transferred to the District Planning Committee, which gave its approval this week. In additional to the two apartment buildings, there will be a commercial center on the ground floor, towards Sigalit Street at the corner of Dov Yosef Street. The commercial center will occupy 1,400 square meters, half of which will be dedicated for new open public space that will include a new urban square and a kindergarten with a yard adjacent to the open area.

Of the 216 units, 20% will be small apartments, up to 80 square meters, in order to enable young couple and young families to realistic purchase an apartment.
