Otzma Yehudit has a new request of Bayit Yehudi: “Do not use the name “United Right-Wing Party’ in the upcoming election, as after we broke away from you, using the name is legally problematic.
Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir, among the leaders of the Otzma Yehudit party, sent a letter to Bayit Yehudi Chairman Rabbi Rafi Peretz on Tuesday night, requesting that the party stop using the “United Right-Wing Party (URWP)” name as they broke away, and continuing to use the same name is deceptive and illegal.
Otzma Yehudit recently announced it was canceling the agreement with Bayit Yehudi, claiming Peretz failed to honor it by not implementing the Norwegian Law, namely that he and Betzalel Smotrich should have resigned as MKs after being appointed to the cabinet to permit two others on the list to enter Knesset, including Ben-Gvir. This would permit them to continue serving as ministers while permitting two others to become MKs.
In his letter, Ben-Gvir accuses Peretz of “using us and then discarding us”. He adds that from a legal standpoint, once the agreement between come of the parties was canceled, Bayit Yehudi no longer has the right to use the URWP name in the upcoming election.
