In his latest attack against the religious community, Yisrael Beitenu party chairman, MK Avigdor Lieberman, has now placed the pre-IDF preparatory yeshivot known as ‘Mechinot’ in his sights.
Following the sharp and unbridled attacks against the chareidi tzibur, Yisrael Beiteinu Chairman Avigdor Lieberman chose Tuesday to attack the pre-military preparatory programs of religious Zionist community. Chairman of the URWP, Rabbi Rafi Peretz responded harshly, claiming it was Yvette’s (Lieberman) death throes.
According to Lieberman, who addressed the Herzliya Conference: “We have to disconnect between the Ministry of Education and the pre-military preparatory programs, and we will discuss this in the next government. The fact that Rabbi Giora Redler [of Yeshivat Bnei David] is still in this position is the moral bankruptcy of the values of the Israeli government”.
As usual, Lieberman has not forgotten to attack the chareidim: “There is now competition between Gantz and Netanyahu, who is more pious than the chareidim. The chareidim have been in government too long. There must be separation of religion and politics, we cannot separate between religion and state. The religious councils have turned into party branches.”
In response, the chairman of the Union of Right-Wing Party (URWP), Rabbi Rafi Peretz, said: “I tell Lieberman: Let us go as your time has passed. These are the death throes of your career, while Israeli society needs unity and healing of the rifts. You only inflame the flames and deepen the polarization.”
MK Nir Barkat added: “Lieberman chose to deal with the chareidi sector and now with the dati leumi sector. This is not the practice. The road must be of connections and unity among the people, despite the diversity that characterizes the people of Israel in all its shades and opinions.”

So who is Lieberman going to attack next? Sephardim, Ethiopians, women? I hope he’s finally voted out of office!
It reaching the point where I have to suspect that all of this may be some sort of ruse to help Barak (or someone else) out, like a “good cop – bad cop” scenario.
