Jerusalem City Council ratified the allocation of funding for Charedi schools on Tuesday after a 6-month fight that had taken place in the council. The budgetary committee in charge recognized the importance of allocating the funding set aside for all communities throughout Jerusalem and met today to ratify all of the allocations.
Deputy Mayor Chaim Cohen refused to allow the committee to meet unless there was a prearranged agreement that all segments of Jerusalem’s populace would receive an equal share of the funding for schools.
Cohen was supported by the Mayor Moshe Lion who supported the idea that all learning institutions should be supported equally. After Cohen succeeded in receiving guarantees from the professional side of city hall and from the rest of the council members on the committee, Cohen allowed for the committee to finally meet. During the meeting a number of high priority allocations were ratified including one community that had been waiting for years to receive the allocation funding.
