A Kalansua Resident Struck A Vehicle While Avoiding Police And Arrested For DWI

A 44-year-old Kalansua resident tried to avoid a police checkpoint checking drivers for alcohol levels and he was eventually arrested for DWI after hitting another vehicle while trying to avoid police.

Police established a checkpoint on Route 57 to randomly stop and check drivers to determine their blood alcohol level. During the operation of the checkpoint, police detected a driver was acting a bit suspicious, instructing him to pull over to the side to be tested. The driver ignored police and continued to drive, albeit slowly, between the vehicles at the checkpoint, pushing a policeman to the side and then striking another vehicle that was to the right of him. He then came to a halt and was restrained by police; at which time it was determined that he was legally drunk. Police also learned that he was driving with a suspended license since 2009.

His passenger, a 37-year-old male from the same Israeli Arab municipality, was arrested after he refused to identify himself when instructed to do so by police.

The drunk driver’s license was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle impounded for the same period of time. He was also given a summons instructing him to appear in traffic court.
