Motzei Shabbos News Round-Up From Eretz Yisroel


Israeli security forces operating near the Mosque in Isawiya came under attack as Palestinians began throwing rocks and shooting firecrackers at them. The force returned fire using live ammunition as well as crowd-dispersing ammunition. No Israeli injuries were reported.

Some 6,000 Gazans rioted near the Gaza border fence on Friday in a variety of locations. Among the rioters were terrorists who threw more than 100 improvised explosive devices as well as hand grenades at IDF security forces stationed along the border. There were no reports of soldiers injured during the riots.  The IDF returned fire and 10 Gazans were reported injured. On  Shabbos morning, IDF sappers deactivated dozens of bombs and hand grenades that failed to explode. Shockwaves were heard in the area.

Two parked cars in Jerusalem suffered direct hits from bullets that were shot by Palestinian Arabs near Shuafat and Anata. The vehicles were parked on streets in the Pisgat Ze’ev and Neve Yaakov neighborhoods of Jerusalem. One of the cars was parked on Mazal Moznayim Street the other was parked on Aba Achiamar Street. Due to it being Shabbos, neither vehicle was occupied. According to initial reports, the bullets were fired by Palestinians celebrating a wedding in the nearby village.

A report on the Chabad news site COLlive stated that Chabad yeshivas in Israel have banned young teenagers aged 14-17 who study in Mesivtas and Yeshiva Ketanas from working in summer camps.

Four Jewish hikers who were detained by the IDF on Friday afternoon after they were attacked by Palestinian Authority (PA) police officers were released home before shkiah. The hikers were detained following their hike near the springs surrounding the city of Ariel in Samaria. Samaria Regional Council Head Yossi Dagan and Honenu attorney Nati Rom worked on behalf of the hikers to get them released from IDF custody who arrested the hikers following the incident with the PA police. The IDF, arriving an hour and a half after the PA officers opened fire in order to rescue the hikers. They took the hikers to the local Israeli police station to testify.

Dagan himself arrived at the police station and demanded that the hikers be released and treated as innocent civilians rather than as criminals. On Saturday night, Dagan spoke with a senior IDF official, demanding a thorough investigation be conducted and that the incident not be allowed to be forgotten. “Palestinian policemen firing at and arguing with Israeli civilians in Area C crosses a red line,” Dagan said. “This is a serious issue. I demand the investigation of this issue be continued.”

Israeli Minister of Internal Security and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan signed an order on Friday that prevented the convening of a conference by the PA under the title “Jerusalem the capital of Palestine”. The conference was scheduled to take place in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Erdan instructed that the activities not be held in Jerusalem, in accordance with section 3 (a) of the Implementation of the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Restriction of Activity) Law, 5755-1994. The law prohibits the Palestinian Authority from opening or operating any representation, holding a meeting or activity within the borders of the State of Israel. Should such a thing be organized, the law authorizes the Internal Security Minister to issue an order prohibiting such activity.

Moshe Levy, the Israeli businessman who was in an Ethiopian prison for the past four years under the suspicion of tax evasion, was released from prison following a worsening of his medical condition. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu worked behind-the-scenes to get Levy released in numerous meetings that he held with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.

Residents of Kfar Kadum published a video online that appears to show IDF soldiers fleeing a from a group of Palestinians who were throwing rocks at them. An IDF spokesperson said that the incident depicted showed two soldiers who had just finished their mission leaving the area.

The driver of a Jet Ski was seriously injured in an accident that occured between two jet skis in the Eilat bay. The other driver was lightly injured in the incident.

A 40-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle accident that took place on Highway 31 between Arad and the Zohar intersection.

A 16-year-old boy was found lifeless on an ATV near Kibbutz Telalim in the Negev. Police are investigating the incident but are currently working under the suspicion that the boy was killed in a motor vehicle accident.
