The Magen David Adom volunteers in Jerusalem decided to fulfill the dream of David and Rafael, who are members of the organization, and to try to provide first aid in Magen David Adom.
When David (8) and Rafael (16) arrived at the Shalva Center in Jerusalem, they found it hard to believe the exciting surprise that awaited them. The MDA volunteers arrived especially for them, gave them MDA uniforms and went out with them to the ambulance. The volunteers were greeted by MDA volunteers who received them with balloons in the colors of the organization – red and white, and together they watched a video about the activities of MDA emergency medical volunteers, toured the MDA Emergency Call Center in Jerusalem and underwent basic CPR and first aid instruction. Upon completion of the training, they received “Ne’eman Chaim” MDA vests and personal first aid kit.
They then received an explanation of the equipment in the ambulance and the importance of treatment and assistance in the field.
The great joy of the trainees throughout the special activity was very exciting for the MDA volunteers, who held a ceremony in honor of David and Rafael in honor of the evening, and a certificate of appreciation was given to them from the NGO Shalva. A week later, David, 8, began activities for the other children, friends of his from Shalva, during which he told them about his unforgettable experiences from visiting the MDA station.
Chana, David’s mother: “David’s dream, from a very young age, was to be a paramedic in MDA and to help others. He was always worried about friends or family who were injured or bruised. In MDA activities in Jerusalem, David was really in a dream as he never stops talking about it, and gets excited and rejoices, and dreams of doing a course when he grows up … I thank the MDA volunteers and everyone who has fulfilled my son’s dream for him.”
Omri David, an EMT in charge of the EMT volunteers in Jerusalem adds: For me, the meeting was extraordinarily moving. It is amazing to see the joy that comes from a child who has just fulfilled a dream. I was privileged to take part in it.”
Shlomo Petrover, Chief of MDA Jerusalem: “As part of the humanitarian vision of Magen David Adom, we support people with special needs and people with disabilities. It is a privilege for us to realize the children’s dream within the Magen David Adom framework, and it is exciting to see it every time. I thank the volunteers of MDA Jerusalem for their commitment, as always, for the sake of the other.”
