Smotrich: I Work For HKBH

Bayit Yehudi party chairman, MK Betzalel Smotrich: “When a door is closed before us (the Justice Ministry appointment) we are faced with the option of banging our heads against a closed door, and between showing the required pragmatism in the political system, to try to stabilize and influence others towards permitting us to do as much good for the State of Israel as we can towards achieving religious Zionist achievements, also towards the election period”.

This is what Smotrich wrote on Monday evening as in the coming days he will be appointed as a member of the Political-Security Cabinet as agreed between him and party leader Rabbi Rafi Peretz, as they are about to accept the portfolios offered to them by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu; the Ministries of Education and Transportation.

Smotrich explains that he is aware that the current period, before elections, is a short one and what can be accomplished is limited. “Sitting at the cabinet table and in the government are important tools towards influencing events, and it is fitting that there be religious Zionist representation, even during this twilight period. As we said, we are in a pre-election government, and it is reasonable to assume that I will not be able to make a significant impact in a short transitional government period, but there is certainly something to be done that is useful in this situation.”

In an interview with KAN News, Smotrich said in response to a question about whether he thinks Netanyahu did not give him the justice portfolio because he is not close to him because “I am not a man of the prime minister, I am a member of the public who sent me,” adding that “I work for HKBH.”

News12 reported that Smotrich is expected to advance moves in the Ministry of Transportation in preparation for the application of Israeli sovereignty in Yehuda and Shomron. In response to the report, the Ribonut (Sovereign) Movement congratulated the incoming minister for his appointment and wishes him “a successful way to build the country in general and to apply sovereignty in Yehuda and Shomron in particular, in any way possible.”
