Two weeks following the violent vicious beating and arrest of Yanki Rosenberg, 23, an autistic young man who was beaten without provocation by a border policeman in Jerusalem, his father is expected to file a lawsuit against police.
At this stage it is not clear how the incident began, but Yanki’s arrest using force, documented from several angles on video, while blood flowed from Yanki’s face, caused great agitation among Yanki’s acquaintances, but not only, as many Israelis from all sectors and streams who were watching the documentation were shocked.
Eyewitnesses report that there were shouts as Yanki was being arrested “make sure to video it and that they told him (the police) that he is special ed and has issues”. In fact, Yanki himself after being tackled down told police “I am special ed, I am Siach Sod (name of his institution), don’t you get it?” As they dragged him to the waiting police van Yanki is heard crying “Mommy. Where is my wallet? Bring me the notebook”.
Police report the youths were trying to ignite a Lag B’Omer bonfire and there was violence against them when they explained the bonfire was prohibited at that location. Police cite they were targeted with rocks as well, and Yanki pushed a female officer [who was in plainclothes]. When backup units arrived, the female officer identified Yanki as the person who pushed her and he was placed under arrest, beginning the brutal assault against him. YWN has published security camera footage showing that the victim never assaulted or pushed the police officer.
On Lag B’Omer day, after the violent arrest was aired on the news and social media, the Justice Ministry’s Police Investigation Unit already began probing what occurred. BeChadrei Chareidim adds that in a conversion with a justice department official they were told that an investigation is well underway, and all information is being gathered to see if an indictment against the officer will be coming.
BeChadrei also reports that Mr. Rosenberg has already met with attorney Amit Hadad, who also represents Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, said that Haddad will file a civil suit against the police in the name of Yanki, who has a borderline IQ.
The Justice Ministry’s PIU probe is not complete, as they await the arrival of Yanki and his dad to hear Yanki’s version.
זה סרטון מזעזע שפוצע את הלב ומרתיח את הדם. המשטרה חייבת לבדוק את העניין הזה בדחיפות. https://t.co/JnVZy0A0xR

Lawmakers from the left-wing Meretz party also called on authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident.

This is long overdue! Not every Charedi in Israel has to be under this abuse from Mishtara! Not every Chareidi in Israel is a stone thrower in Meah Shearim! The brutality that is exhibited in Israel is unforgivable. It is time for someone to take accountability!
Sue his head off.
Terrible terrible.
To A Mamin: While I agree with you that not every Chareidi is a stone-thrower, let’s be realistic: the police are understandably upset that they get so much physical and verbal abuse from frum people and nobody does anything to stop it. Not the higher-ups and certainly not the Rabbis. The Rabbis who silently condone the violence carried out by their talmidim are the ones to blame.
Do I think this violence towards this young man was warranted? No, I don’t. But just like you are saying that when the police hear hoofbeats they shouldn’t automatically think of horses, it is understandable that they assume it’s a herd of ponies. Sometimes, the hoofbeats are from zebra. In this case, the police were 100% wrong & deserve to be fired & sued.
BH – this was a HUGE tragedy that should never have happened. This officer needs to get the Book thrown at him. Let it be an example for others. Police officers should be protecting the public – this is a sad story.
and should be put under suspension which they won’t
OUTRAGED
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE ID THE GIRL WHO STARTED THIS ABUSE AND CONTINUED THE BEATING AS.
PLEASE
LETS PUBLISH HER NAME AND ADDRESS.
THIS IF AT FIRST WAS MISTAKE, IT DIDNT STOP. SHE FED THE FALSE INFORMATION.
SHE MUST BE FINED AND FIRED AND POLICE SUE.
NO MORE COVERUPS FOR THIS HATE.
FRANCE, GAZA, JERUSALEM
I agree with a Maman. I know ppl personally who were just standing by and watching protests who got hurt and shoved by police. There’s no accountability. We’ve seen footage on yeshiva world too where ppl singing were violently shoved by the police by protests. There must be another way to maintain law and order! Especially when it comes from Jews, aren’t we rachmanim?. And for the secularists who pride themselves in democracy, freedom of expression and respect and tolerance for all?
HML – Idiotic – try using your argument with black lives matter – well, we didn’t realize it was zebras…how self-hating we are. Chareidim are the most discriminated-against minority group in E”Y (perhaps with the exception of Ethiopians). The violent rock-throwing, garbage-burning nut jobs are a tiny, tiny minority, as everyone well knows. And there is no rationalizing with insane people, as everyone knows, so stop blaming the rabbonim. The police obviously should get these people off the streets but apparently they’re too busy beating up on people with autism. The truth is that the police typically do a wonderful job – they are competent, community-aware, helpful, professional and courteous (they did a fantastic job at Meron this year) – kol hakovod. This incident, therefore, should be dealt with very seriously.
