Police were summoned to a car fire on Tuesday evening, at about 6:15PM, with the report stating a number of children were actually playing in the vehicle which caught fire.

By the time firefighters succeeded in extinguishing the car fire, it was too late, and all that remained was to recover the charred remains of the four-year-old girl from the vehicle. Police crime scene investigators arrived at the scene to gather evidence.

The girl was identifed as Aya Abu Diaa, a resident of the Khalayleh neighborhood of the Bedouin Palestinian village of Al Jib, near Givon HaChadasha in the Binyamin Regional Council area of Shomron. The location is near Ramot and adjacent to Givat Ze’ev.

According to the preliminary findings of investigators, a number of children were playing in a yard. At some point they got a lighter and began playing with the flame, lighting a number of cartons inside the vehicle. At one point, the flames caught on inside the vehicle, which also caught fire and the children ran out, all but the little girl. Her friends shouted for her to get out of the burning vehicle, but unfortunately, she did not make it.

The investigation continues.
