Shin Bet Arrests Israeli-Arab Woman For Visiting Syria And Joining Terror Groups


Israel last month arrested a Galilee woman on suspicion of illegally travelling to Syria and joining radical Islamic terrorist organization Jabhat al-Nusra, it emerged Sunday after a gag order was lifted.

Ranwa Shinawi, aged 22 from the Arab village of Makr in the Western Galilee, spent a year in Syria and was arrested by the Shin Bet security service upon her return to Israel on May 7.

During the interrogation by the Shin Bet, it was learned that Shanui was in touch with Syrian nationals, which offered her to come to Syria and join the Al-Nusra Front with the desire to die “a martyr’s death”.

Investigators also learned that she stole money from family members to finance her visit to Syria. She arrived in Turkey on March 18th, crossing the border to Syria using forged identity papers.

After joining the ranks of the terrorist organization, the Al-Nusra Front, she left Syria for Turkey and returned to Israel.

The findings of Shanui’s investigation point to an extreme ideological outlook, including support for the terrorist organization Dash and a deep hatred of the Jews.

On Friday, May 31, 2019, a serious indictment was filed against Shanui by the Northern District Attorney’s Office.
