IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi is leading this year’s March of the Living group to the former Nazi death camps in Poland.

The group numbers 12,000, mostly youths, one-third non Jews, with participants from 52 countries. It is also the IDF commander’s first visit to Poland.

On Wednesday night and Thursday, Israel will observe Holocaust Remembrance Day, with the main ceremony taking place on Wednesday night in Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum at 20:00. The event will be broadcast live on Israel Television and will be attended by many dignitaries, including President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
