There is not a great deal of time for the parties to prepare for elections for the 22nd Knesset, which is set for September 17, 2019.
Every election campaign begins with the establishment of an election committee. By the beginning of June, the various parties will have to put together the Central Elections Committee for the 22nd Knesset race. This means that the appointment of the committee and the replacement of Chairman Chanan Meltzer with another retired judge will take place at the height of an ongoing election campaign.
The next date of significance is August 1st, when the parties will begin submitting their lists, which will end the next day – 47 days before the elections. The lists of contenders for a seat in the 22nd Knesset will have to be closed by that date. At present, it is not clear what future connections will occur between parties and which parties will go it alone.
A week later, August 7th, will mark the deadline for submitting a request to disqualify a list. The final ruling on this matter will be submitted to the Central Elections Committee up to 23 days before Election Day.
The last date is August 27, then the Interior Ministry will distribute messages to the voter. The announcements shall state the polling stations in which each citizen will vote. Two weeks before the elections, the propaganda broadcasts of the parties will begin on television, and the announcement of the chairman of the Central Elections Committee regarding freedom of elections will be published.
