Police Prepared for Jerusalem Day Weekend and Yahrzeit of Shmuel HaNavi


Police announce the department stands ready for Sunday’s Flag Parade in honor of Yom Yerushalayim, Jerusalem Day. Jerusalem Day marks the liberation of the Old City during the June 1967 War, when IDF forces liberated the holy city from Jordanian occupation, including the Kosel and Har Habayis. Official Yom Yerushalayim events will be held from June 1-3, 2019. The official state ceremony will take place at Ammunition Hill. Police are also prepared for the yahrzeit of Shmuel HaNavi, which is on 29 Iyar, coinciding with Sunday, June 2nd.

Police, border police and volunteer units will be deployed to maintain public order over the upcoming holiday weekend.

Flag Parade – Traffic Arrangements
From 3:00PM to 9:00PM, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic.
David HaMelech, Shlomo HaMelech, Betzalel, King George, Agron, Yaffo, Kikar Tzahal, Chaim Bar-Lev (Kellerman Junction, Shragai to Derech Chevron – Miriam Hashmonait), Sultan Suleiman, Derech Yericho, Opel Road, Yitzchak Kariv, Yaffo Gate, Zion Gate and Dung Gate.

The light rail will operate on two shortened routes
• North: Pisgat Ze’ev to Shar Shechem
• South: Mount Herzl to the central bus station
• There will be changes in bus routes. One may call Egged at *2800 for information

State Ceremony at Ammunition Hill
• Will take place on Sunday, June 2, 2019.
• Shragai Street will be closed intermittently during the hours of 6:00PM to 11:00PM

‘White Night’ event in Sacher Park
• A ‘White Night’ event will be hosted in Sacher Park between 10:00PM and 6:00AM, expected to draw thousands of participants.

Yahrzeit of Shmuel HaNavi
Police expect tens of thousands of mispallalim to make their way to the tziyun, located in the Nebi Samuel area of Yerushalayim, near Ramot. There will be bus service to the tziyun leaving from two area;
• Ramot bus depot on Mirsky Street
• (2) from the parking lot at Mintz Junction in Ramot.
• Private vehicles will not be permitted access to the kever on the yahrzeit.
• From motzei Shabbos June 1st until Monday June 3rd, Route 436 between Ramot and Givat Ze’ev will be used for the shuttle service to the kever and for neighborhood residents.
