A resident of the Bedouin town of Tuba-Zangariyye was arrested on Sunday evening for being suspected of perpetrating the poisoning and deaths of eight vultures on the Golan Heights. The Israeli police and Border Police were involved in making the arrest.
A spokesperson for the Border police said: ” This is a very serious incident of poisoning wildlife. As soon as we got the report that the birds had been poisoned, the police force has been working without end to identify the perpetrator and bring him or her to justice. We have been assisted by the National Park Ministry and we utilized every tactic, technique, and technology available to us in order to make the arrest.”
The vultures were poisoned on the Golan on Friday, at which point the police immediately began investigating. The poison also claimed the lives of a fox and two yellow jackals.
The veterinary hospital in the Safari at Ramat Gan reported that one of the vultures poisoned was revived successfully.
