Tiveria Mayor Ron Kobi Responds to Threatening Interior Ministry Letter

Tiveria Mayor Ron Kobi on motzei Shabbos used Facebook to respond to the harsh threatening letter he received from the Interior Ministry, in which he is warned that if he does not succeed in passing the city’s budget by June 30, the ministry is likely to intervene, as reported by YWN-Israel.

Kobi called on the various parties to join the coalition, including the chareidim and Bayit Yehudi. He added with confidence that even in the case the Interior Ministry appoints a committee he will remain mayor and he will receive assistance from the prime minister and High Court of Justice.

Seeking to exhibit an air of confidence, he stated in his Facebook post that even if the government ministry intervenes, the matter will become clear before the High Court of Justice, namely that the chareidi opposition to his budget is not justifiable, merely their response to his anti-chareidi policies.

Ron Kobi added, “I know one thing – there is not yet one court that can confirm that a mayor will go home because he has a proportional council. In 90% of the committees in Israel – the mayor remains in his position. Visit the Knesset website and read about the Interior Ministry committees. You can forget all of the fantasies and dreams of [former mayor and current religious councilman] Yossi Ben-David and recommend that Yossi Ben-David look for a decent job for you.”

The committee the mayor refers to is when the Interior Ministry steps in and usurps the authority of the mayor and takes control of the running of a municipality or city.
