A melamed in a Petach Tikvah talmid torah, a resident of Petach Tikvah, was arrested Sunday by police on suspicion of harming young children he taught. The city’s Magistrate’s Court today extended his remand until this coming erev Shabbos Friday.
The arrests were made following a number of complaints filed with the police on suspicion of committing apparently serious offenses against children – both kindergarten and talmid torah – all attending the same educational institution.
Recently some of the children shared their parents with what they experienced in the educational institution, and they decided to complain to the police.
The news of the children’s words led to a severe storm in the chareidi community in Hadar Ganim, for it is a well-known educational figure, the father of a large family.
According to a report in Maariv, the filing of the complaint and the publication of the suspect’s details between the parents during the interrogation stage aroused a storm, and rabbis in the community wrote that it is forbidden to rush to spill the blood of the suspect and the community must permit police to conduct the investigation.
