Israel Police Stands Ready For Ramadan In Yerushalayim [PHOTOS]


Israeli police officers, border police and reinforcements will deploy from this Friday, May 10th, and on each Friday during the month of Ramadan (May 17th, May 24th and May 31st), from early morning hours in East Jerusalem and the alleys of the Old City, to allow the tens of thousands of Muslims to pray, The order and the security, the direction and the regulation of the movement.

The Israel Police calls on all worshipers to celebrate their holiday and to obey the instructions of the policemen in the field to maintain order. Worshipers who arrive for prayer by means of transportation will go back to the bus at the end of the prayer, at the point where they got off the bus in the morning.

Permits to enter Israel in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Defense. Police report they will “act decisively against anyone who tries to disrupt the peace.”

The following are the traffic arrangements that will take place during the Fridays of the month of Ramadan:

Between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, traffic to the following roads will be blocked in the vicinity of the Old City:
Sultan Suleiman, Wadi Joz, Jericho Road, Shmuel Ben Adiya, the Opel Road, Derech Shechem, Salah a-Din, Maalot City of David.

Between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, the following routes will be blocked:
• Bar Lev Blvd. from the Mateh Artzi junction to the south of the city. The traffic will be directed to the Eshkol Tunnel.
• Hebron Road from the Hasmonean street of Miriam to the north of the city. The traffic will be diverted to Bethlehem.
• Paratroopers Street.
• Engineering Corps.

The aforementioned streets will block vehicular traffic between 6:30 AM-2:30PM:
• Derech Shechem
• Saladin Street
• Omar Ben Eles Street

• The drivers are asked to take the Begin route as an alternate route.
• Residents of the Jewish Quarter will enter Shar Yaffo.
• The public arriving at the Kosel is requested to arrive by public transportation.
• Buses will not be allowed through Shar Yaffo.
Disabled people with a handicapped ID arriving at the Kosel will be able to travel through Shar Yaffo.

It is forbidden to drones in the Old City, and the areas around it including the Jerusalem Envelope.
