Despite Reports, New Female Charedi MK Says She Is NOT Leaving Blue & White Party

MK Omer Yankelevich poses with her children in Jerusalem on Tuesday, the day she was sworn is as a member of Knesset

Recently reports in the Israeli media state that members of the Likud party are trying to woo new MKs from the Blue and White Party to jump ship and join Likud, so that the party can establish a government without having to include Avigdor Lieberman’s Yisrael Beiteinu party.

According to the report, Charedi MK Omer Yankelevich has been one of the top targets of the Likud. Yankelevich spoke about the rumors to the media on Wednesday and nipped them in the bud, saying that she has no intention of leaving the party.

Yankelevich, a Beit Shemesh resident and mother of 5, is currently the only woman who represents the Charedi community in the Knesset. She is in Benny Gantz’s Israel Resilience faction and holds the 23rd spot on the Blue and White Party.

Yankelevitch wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday: “What a pleasure to wake up in the morning to the news that I am wanted in the Likud, detailing the creative” efforts “to make me dessert, I apologize in advance for having to destroy a good colorful story, but those who know me know that this fantasy does not have a chance – it is a complete lie. I joined the Israel Resilience party and the Blue and White party not as an employment arrangement or as a political refugee. I believe in Benny Gantz’s way: his leadership, his path, and the new discourse he is trying to instill in Israeli society. I support him because of his belief in man and his ability to contain different worldviews while creating a fruitful and empowering dialogue.”

“I have a moral social mission in mind, and it is only my conscience that guides me in my social and political activities. So it has been so far and so it will be further in every field and subject to which I will put forth my energy. Therefore, there is no place for ugly political trade of the above kind, it does not exist in my conceptual world,” concluded Yankelevich.

  1. Let’s stop perpetrating this falsehood that this phony is Chareidi. She’s as Chareidi as the last fraudster to join the Chareidi-hating party of Yair Lapid — Mr. Dov Lipman — who also falsely claimed to be Chareidi.

Chareidim don’t join Chareidi haters like Lapid.

  2. She cannot be haredi if she is only guided by her own “conscience”, whatever that means. Haredim listen to Daas Torah. Maybe someone like the Bostoner Rebbe, Rebi Mayer Shlita in Yerushalayim could talk to her as he straddles the modern haredi and chassidic light worlds and he has a very good grasp of people and Israeli politics.

  3. “to make me dessert (sic)…” C’mon, doesn’t anyone proof these things?! Are we talking about Bostoner cream pie?

  4. She is clearly wearing a shaitel. Maybe what she means by her conscience is the directives of the dass torah that she asks her shaalos to. One of the reasons many “chareidim” decide not to live in eretz yisroel is the quick dismissal of people from being considered chareidi that goes on there.

  5. She’s far from the first ,probably not the last, who sells themselves for faustian self-aggrandisement

  6. All the mindless comments above criticizing MK Yankelevitch were raised in one form or another during the campaign and the Ganz Blue/White slate received sufficient votes for her to earn a seat in the Knesset. I doubt either she or those who voted for her could care less about what a bunch of guys who couldn’t be elected dogcatcher (or the Israeli version of this metaphor) think about her hashkafah. She has said repeatedly she consulted with her own Rav before deciding to campaign and will continue to do so as a chaver Knesset. If you don’t like it, well too bad. Also remember the new Knesset will have a record number of women from all ends of the religious spectrum serving. Perhaps the “real” Chareidi women will take this as a sign that they should consider running in the next election.

  7. Poor headline. The reports were about wooing her, not about her actually considering leaving her party. It should have said, “Despite attempts, Chareidi woman refuses to leave party, etc…

Her sheitel is quite impressive, very similar to the standard in Lakewood. Kol haposel, ….
