Rice may no longer be a readily available staple in Israel, reportedly the result of a growing world shortage.
SuperSol branches and some Blue Square branches have set a two bag limit on consumers due to the shortage, in addition to a price increase of 50-60%. The two bag limit was reportedly lifted by SuperSol, the nation’s largest supermarket chain, on Sunday.
The price of rice on the world market increased 50% in 2008, as well as other basics, including milk, meat, flour and sugar.
