HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita, head of the Shas Moetzas Gedolei Torah, has instructed Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri not to enter into any government coalition until the matters of yeshiva funding and conscription of bnei torah have been arranged.
In a rare visit on Tuesday to the offices of the Vaad Yeshivos in Yerushalayim be HaGaon HaRav Gershon Edelstein Shlita and Chacham Cohen, the two spoke of the need to solidify the status of bnei torah learning in yeshivos and kollelim.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Vaad Yeshivos, HaRav Chaim Aharon Kaufman added that Rav Cohen sent a stern message to negotiations involved in coalition talks.
“Baruch Hashem we are blessed with chareidim in the government. We stand by them not to participate in any government unless the status of yeshivos is secure and their ability to exist financially, and in terms of recruitment, that will not confuse us with other matters.”

It would be a real act of political courage for them to develop their own plan for alternative public service for bnai torah who don’t wish to serve in the IDF but still provide for service to mosdos in some form. Such alternative service could be designed under rules and parameters established by the Moetzas Gedolei Torah itself. However, to insist that the new government must provide more money for yeshivos while at the same time guaranteeing that all bochurim who say they are “learners” will never be required to perform any military or alternative public service will be a non-starter for the majority of Israelis.
Mr. Hadorah: What “the majority of Israelis” want or don’t want is irrelevant to what the Torah world will or will not agree to. If they attempt to impose their will, we will uncompromisingly resist. Their only alternative will be to build new prisons to house hundreds of thousands of Chareidim.
So Netanyohu instead brings “Blue and White” into the coalition and everything is lost!
It is called blackmail and corruption When the extremists will , for a change, give rather than take from society , will there be compromise with the chareidim. Otherwise, the people will ignore their demands.
Silentmoshe, if Natanyhu brings blue and white into the coalition it will be his end. He only won based off of his promise that he would veer more to the right. If he joins blue and white, they will leave him in a few months and there will be new elections again and he will be finished.
B&W and Likud could hold the government for four full years.
