Gasoline Prices Going Up In Israel In May

Gasoline prices are scheduled into increase in Israel at the beginning of May 2019 by 19 agorot per liter of 95 octane, the fuel used by most vehicles on the road.

A liter of 95 octane unleaded gasoline at self-service pumps will cost NIS 6.51 including VAT. The amount for full service is an additional 21 agorot per liter, as it is in April 2019.

To translate this into US terms, one US gallon of gasoline will cost $7.23, based on the conversion rate of $1/NIS 3.61.

In March the fuel rose by 20 agorot, and in February by 21 agorot, so that the cumulative increase is 60 agorot. By comparison, at the end of 2018, the price of fuel was below the six-shekel level and even dropped to NIS 5.80 for a private car with a 50-liter fuel tank. This is an increase of about NIS 30 for filling one’s tank.

It should be noted that of the full price of a liter of fuel, 63% are taxes (excise and VAT), i.e., from NIS 6.50 per liter, NIS 4.01 are taxes.
