A fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon in the Mishkan Shalom Shul in Tiveria, leading to a major blaze engulfing the entire building and the Sifrei Torah R”L.
The fire appears to have started near the Aron Kodesh; firefighting officials report. The fire department is still operating on the scene as they are making certain the fire has been totally extinguished.
When the fire department arrived on the scene, there were fears that persons were trapped in the shul and this demanded the attention of firemen. Only then were they able to divert their attention to the Aron Kodesh.
United Hatzalah and MDA were on the scene amid the reports of persons trapped in the shul. United Hatzalah EMT Rami Levi told the media, “When I arrived along with the fire department, the sight was horrific, as the Sifrei Torah were up in flames. It was a miracle that no one was injured or worse”.
