Thousands of Shas party supporters turned out on Tuesday night for a major election rally that was held in Binyanei Ha’uma. Shas is working hard to gain additional support, with polls showing the party with five seats.

In 1996 and 1999, HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L campaigned hard to assist the party in elections, traveling the entire country, from north to south. This year, the party is doing the same, with Chacham Shalom Cohen Shlita, hoping his personal message to potential voters will bear fruit on Election Day.

It is reported Rav Cohen “insisted” on playing an active role in the campaign, making visits to many cities including Bnei Brak, Rishon L’Tzion and then making additional stops as they traveled south towards Be’er Sheva. As one sees in an accompanying photo, they have hired a helicopter to take the rav around the country, mimicking the actions of Maran Rav Yosef.
