The Islamic Jihad is trying to carry out a “mega attack” or a series of attacks against Israel in the coming hours or days, Yediot Achronot is reporting.

The attack is being planned in order to harm the significant progress of the Egyptian-UN mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas.

In the past few hours, security officials have identified unusual activity by members of the Islamic Jihad’s military wing in several locations along the border fence between Gaza and Israel. This activity could be an attempt to fire missiles such as Kornet at an Israeli target or to place explosive charges along the fence or even attempt to break through the fence to carry out a significant attack.

According to the Yediot Achronot report, these preparations of the Islamic Jihad are carried out under the nose of the Egyptian mediators, and as far as is known, Hamas is not even aware of this activity. It appears that the instructions for carrying out the attack were transferred to the military wing of the Islamic Jihad from the office in Beirut of the leader of the organization, Ziad Nahala.

It is still not entirely clear why Islamic Jihad is interested in bringing about total collapse of the arrangement. It is possible that this is a dissatisfaction of the terrorist organization with regard to what they are receiving and may be an Iranian directive or recommendation aimed at destroying the arrangement. The Islamic Jihad is also the organization responsible for the six rockets fired at the Gaza in recent days.
