DM Ya’alon: The Middle East will Not Stabilize in Our Generation

yaalonThe Middle East is in the midst of a regional earthquake. Our region will not stabilize in our generation. The area was never truly stable but this time is more serious” stated Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon during a visit to Gadera.

The minister added that he recently approved an Egyptian request to bring many additional forces into Sinai by June 5, 2013 towards stepping up that country’s war against a growing terror presence in Sinai.

In line with the 1973 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, the area in question is supposed to be demilitarized. Israel however may agree, as appears to the case today, after the overthrow of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Following the rise to power of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi the situation in Sinai has deteriorated significantly and the once quiet border is now another area of concern for Israeli intelligence and defense officials.

  1. I hate to say it and no one wants to hear it but I’m afraid it will stabilize but not the way we want. With all the nations against Israel (EU and everyone else boycotting, Russia openly supporting our enemies and Obama not-so-hiddenly supporting our enemies) plus all the Arabs armed to the teeth with dedicated fighters who love death, any nation would succumb.
Our only savings has been the Torah-observant Jews while the non-observant at least have supported and respected those who keep the Torah. Now, however, with the climate in Israel so against G-d, I will not be surprised if the Arabs take over. It will not be the first time in history that the Jews were driven from their land. Think long and hard before being so sure that this time will be different.
    Hashem Yerachem.

  2. And what does he think the Jews have done to warrant stability. Beyond strugging to minimizing Shemiras mitsvos, and contemplating instituting persecution of the Bnei Torah, the major Israeli accomplishments have been to get on various State Department lists for promoting an industry we can’t get here, and getting listed as “the place to go” for a sort of tourism we don’t talk about here.

The only times Eretz Yisrael has been stable have been when it was ruled by a very secure and stable superpower (Ottomans in the 1500s to the 1700s, Iranians prior to the Greeks conquering the place). If Ha-Shem wanted us to live in a quiet stable place, He could have given Moshe Rabeinu a crash course in shipbuilding and we could have gone to New Zealand or Madagascar (which were unhabited at the time).

  3. Lets see the best of klal yisrael and work in improving our individual faults. With this we will no doubt merit not only stability, but the coming. Of moshiach who will usher in true peace and tranquility.

  4. akuperman, Jews have not destabilized anything; please don’t repeat Zionist lies about them representing Jews. It is the Zionists, not Jews, who are responsible for the mess Zionists have made, and the Zionists do not represent Jews.

Also, of course, he doesn’t mention that the reason “the area was never truly stable”.
