DWI Apprehended In His Mercedes On Israel’s Route 2 Traveling 205 KPH


An man was arrested after Israel Police clocked him driving at a dangerous speed of 205 KPH (127 MPH) near the Sapir interchange on Route 2 northbound. Not only that, but the man was charged with DWI.

Police had to chase the vehicle until it stopped several kilometers away. In the conversation with the driver, a resident of Haifa, it became clear immediately that his Hebrew was not fluent. Police also noticed there were two women in the vehicle.

Police learned the driver is only in Israel for about 18 months, hence his level of Hebrew, and that he has Romanian citizenship.

Police detected a prominent odor of alcohol on the 36-year-old driver’s breath, and when he did a breathalyzer test, police report he was three times over the legal limit.

He was detained for interrogation and his vehicle impounded for 30 days, and the driver’s license suspended for 30 days.

Police report that since the beginning of the year more than 1,600 motorists have been apprehended operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
