A 70-year-old man R”L perished in an Ashdod fire in a private home in Nechemia Street in the city on Monday, March 25, 2019. The victim was found by firefighters locked in the bathroom. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Firefighters responded to the call shortly after 8:00 AM Monday morning, and found smoke coming from an apartment in a three-story building. Firefighters were forced to break through the door of the apartment in order to search for trapped persons.

The victim was found locked in the bathroom. He was extricated, but was R”L pronounced dead at the scene.

Police report an investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
