Addressing a memorial event for former Mossad Chief Meir Dagan on Monday, March 18, 2019, former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkott explained that during his tenure, there were numerous instances which Israel was “within a hair’s breadth of escalation”, adding “Hezbollah planned to send 5000 fighters to infiltrate Israel via the tunnels, with their guns blazing, but we stopped them”.

The recently-retired IDF commander explains that today, he feels the new and perhaps even more worrisome threat is the cyber threat, and this will continue becoming increasingly relevant in the future.

He explained that if one compares the threats facing Israel to an iceberg, citizens see the tip of that iceberg while the military sees that which remains invisible to the naked eye, referring to rocket and nuclear threats from Iran, Gaza and areas of the “West Bank”.

It is pointed out that since he has been in office, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has realized the significance of a most advanced authority to address the mounting cyber threats directed at Israel daily. He has succeeded, and the nation’s Cyber Authority is among the leaders in the world, facing new challenges daily, while remaining on the forefront of preventing cyber attacks from infiltrating the nation’s computers systems.
