In a long and well-articulated letter, Attorney Itamar Ben-Givir calls on the Interior Ministry in the name of residents of Betar Illit, to compel Mayor Meir Rubinstein to return money to the municipal coffers, which he used for his personal promotion, including a luxury vehicle, advertisements and pamphlets praising his work.”
In his document, which spans 214 pages, Rubinstein is alleged to have used public funds from the Betar Illit Municipality to purchase a luxury vehicle, far beyond what is permitted, 11 mobile phones in his name, and well as paying for ads singing praise for his accomplishments and distributing gifts.
“While there is money in the Betar Illit Municipality for luxuries and gifts, Meir Rubinstein holds back almost NIS 3 million for special education in the city.
Attorney Itamar Ben-Givir said: “We are behind the letter and believe that the Interior Ministry should instruct Meir Rubinstein to return the money that was ostensibly spent illegally.
“The Interior Ministry must enter the gutters of the Betar Illit Municipality and carry out a thorough investigation into the complaints that have accumulated over many years about the improper and corrupt conduct of municipal officials who take public money and municipal property as their own.”
