During a radio interview with Kol Berama Radio, MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Yaakov Litzman announced he will not support the candidacy of Shas’ Eli Yishai in the Jerusalem mayoral race.
Litzman explained that when he was a candidate to chair the Knesset Finance Committee, and appointment that was backed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Yishai did not support him and that is why he did not get the slot. He stated he has absolutely no intentions of supporting Yishai for mayor of the capital, adding he knows that former mayor Uri Lupoliansky plans to run and the latter is the better candidate and the candidate that will receive the support of the chareidi tzibur.
Litzman added that Yahadut Hatorah would not join the current coalition and the moment it falls, new elections must be called.
It should be pointed out that in the last Jerusalem mayoral race, Litzman’s refusal to back chareidi candidate Meir Porush led to the latter’s defeat and the election of a non-religious mayor, Nir Barkat.

Nir Barkat was the first to introduce the idea of Chiloni representation in the election of Chief Rabbi. This was for Jerusalem but showed the way for the national elections. Unfortunately, people don’t learn from their mistakes.

We will know that the Hareidi community in Israel finally feels threatened by the hilonim, when the Hareidim start uniting. If all hareidi political groups unite (Agudah, Degel ha-Torah, Shas and the Eidah Hareidis), they can probably take over the Jersualem government which cause pose many problems for the Israeli government. If however, the various hareidim, in spire of loud posturing, feel the “war on hareidim” is a bluff, they won’t unite.
#8 Uniting will not be happening soon for many reasons especially with the Eidah. At the last anti-draft rally, Rav Steinman shlit”a kehilla did not join in and just a sprinkling of SHAS guys. There is no ‘war on hareidim’ there is instead a change in the guard and new laws going into effect for all residents of the country.
Litzman has always been trouble.
When he is gone ,there will be a sigh of relief hovering over the country

How does one get a sigh of relief to hover?
