A police internal affairs investigation into an incident that occurred during the October 2007 rioting in northern Israeli Arab community of Peki’in cleared five policemen of wrongdoing. The five were facing an investigation for allegedly firing their weapons without justification.
One of the officers was cleared of all charges while the cases against the others were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
Almost 30 policemen and a number of MDA medics were injured in the violence as were civilians. In one case, a policeman was held hostage, eventually released after a neighbor intervened.
