Israel Has 5.8 Million Eligible Voters In Upcoming Knesset Elections


According to the data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) on Monday, March 11, 2019, there are 5.8 million eligible voters in Israel who may cast their ballot in the upcoming election for 21st Knesset on Election Day, Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

The Central Elections Committee data shows that the number of eligible voters registered in the voters’ register for the 21st Knesset is 10% higher, and stands at approximately 6.3 million, since this figure includes the Israelis living abroad regularly, while the Central Bureau of Statistics refers to Israeli residents only.

Since the last Knesset election in 2015, the number of eligible voters increase by 434,000.

A breakdown of Central Bureau of Statistics data shows that 79% of the eligible voters are Jews, approximately 16% are Arabs (Muslims, Christians, Druse, etc.). An additional 5% are defined as “others” – most of them immigrants and their families who are not registered as Jews in the population registry.

The figures also show that 14% of eligible voters are young people between the ages of 18-24, about 30% of those aged 25-39, and 32% of those aged 40-59. About a quarter of those with voting rights are aged 60 and over.
