Tragedy R”L struck twice for the Markowitz family of upper Nazareth on Sunday. Towards evening, the mother of the family, Himni Markowitz A”H was niftar at the age of 85, after battling a difficult illness.

A few hours later, on Monday morning, her son Rav Ephraim, 55, was niftar. He died suddenly of a heart attack. He too was a resident of upper Nazareth. He died as he was tending to the funeral arrangements of his mother.

The levaya took place on Tuesday, in the Old Nazareth Cemetery where the family has plots. The son’s levaya also took place on Tuesday, several hours after his mother’s.

There is a combined shiva as the families decided to sit together.
