Shlomi Dvir, one of the convicted members of the Bat Ayin Jewish terror cell is seeking a presidential pardon as the state prepares to celebrate it 60th anniversary. Also imprisoned is Ofir Gamliel, who with Dvir planned to bomb an Arab girl’s school in the eastern capital.
They placed a cart laden with explosives, but it was detected in time, preventing the attack.
Dvir is aware the special committee is reviewing cases of prisoners who may enjoy a presidential pardon during Israel’s jubilee, and he feels that he should be included as many others will be released, including drug offenders and other criminals.
Dvir is serving a 15-year sentence, and according to reports, under very harsh conditions. He continually seeks assistance from MKs, explaining he is singled out and is compelled to live under very difficult circumstances which supporters believe is the result of his hard right-wing political affiliations.
