As heavy rainfall continues in Yerushalayim and across the country, Kinneret Water Authority officials report on Wednesday morning, February 27, 2019, that the level has risen above the lower red line due to the winter’s rainfall to date. The level on Wednesday morning is reported to be -212.98 meters and the red line is -213.00 meters. There is a way to go until we reach the upper red line, with is -208 meters.
Upper red line
This sign shows that the Kinneret is full (maximum capacity). When this level is reached, the Dgania Dam is being opened.
Lower red line
The line height is 213.0 meters below sea level. According to ecology experts with the decline of the water level under this line starts a damage to ecological balance and water quality begins to decline. After the arrival of water to this level it is forbidden to pump or use water from the Kinneret.
The unseasonably cold weather that began on Wednesday is expected to continue in the coming days as reported, along with rainfall throughout the country.
