On the morning of February 25, a team of patrol officers at the Haifa station conducted a routine enforcement operation in the streets of the city, in which they estimated that at around 5:00AM, the driver appeared suspicious and instructed to pull over to the side of the road. However, the driver began a wild ride, endangering other drivers and ramming into a police vehicle.
At the same time, the police car, together with other police forces from the Zevulun and Akko stations, followed after the vehicle along Route 22, while the driver continued to flee while committing life-threatening traffic offenses, including a wild ride on the fringes to evade a roadblock, crossing intersections on red traffic signals and doing everything possible to avoid being apprehended.
The driver was eventually apprehended in the Akko area after a foot chase after causing an accident and then fleeing from police again.
An initial investigation revealed that the driver had escaped from the police because he had been found to be DWI, driving while intoxicated, operating a vehicle that was already ordered off the road by police.
The suspect, a resident of Akko in his 20s, was brought before the Haifa Magistrate’s Court and his detention was extended.
