Chairman of the New Right party, Minister Naftali Bennet, spoke out on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 regarding the agreement between the Bayit Yehudi, Ichud Leumi and Otzma Yehudit parties. He stated that the followers of Rabbi Meir Kahane, their model, are not fit to serve in Knesset.
During an interview with KAN Reshet Bet Radio, Bennet said, “I do not accept their positions at all, but there is a lot of hypocrisy that the left can rely on a bloc of Arab parties and the right cannot do the same.
Bennet was asked if members of Otzma Yehudit, who are identified with Rabbi Kahane’s teachings, deserve to sit in the Israeli Knesset, saying: “The people of Kahane do not deserve to sit in the Knesset, but even those who are against the State of Israel are not fit to sit in the Knesset. There is a desire here for a right-wing bloc to form a government. Ofer Shelach said that they would establish a blocking bloc with Arabs, and that whoever undermines the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state is not fit to be in the Knesset.
“I established the New Right to increase the new right. If I were in Bayit Yehudi, we would end with 8 seats. Now we and the Bayit Yehudi are already doubling the power, and in the survey of ‘Yisrael Hayom’ we are even stronger. The establishment of the New Right saves the right-wing bloc, but the question is who Netanyahu will call after the elections, and it seems to me that in the absence of a choice, Lapid and Ganz will be called. If we want to prevent a terrible list of Bibi-Ganz-Lapid-Bogey (Moshe Ya’alon)-Nissankoren, G-d forbid, we need a strong right. ”
Regarding claims that, contrary to his promise, he is turning to Bayit Yehudi voters from the religious Zionist tzibur, Bennet said, “Over 60 percent of our supporters today are not religious, and 40 percent are religious according to our studies.”
So, who does the new right turn to? According to Bennett, “I appeal to anyone who cares about the Land of Israel, it can be secular or religious Zionism … I appeal to all religious listeners, persons without a kippa and with a kippa to support the New Right. Anyone who wants to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state. It is Palestine or the New Right.”
