Ahead of his planned meeting with Hamas politburo leader Khaled Meshal, former US President Jimmy Carter on Monday visited Sderot, stating he will work to bring a halt to the daily attacks, adding the Qassam rockets are a crime.

When Carter visited the city’s police station, he was presented with rocket fragments in the hope of getting the message across. The former president also spoke with officials of Sapir College, where a student was recently killed in an attack.

Sderot Eli Moiyal told Carter the proximity of Gaza to the Israeli city has created an intolerable situation in which civilians are under constant attack.
