IDF Soldier Wounded At Gaza Border On Sunday Night Remains On Respirator [VIDEO]

According to officials at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, the soldier wounded along the Gaza border on Sunday night underwent emergency surgery to remove pieces of shrapnel from his neck region. The soldier on Monday morning remained sedated and on a respirator, listed in moderate condition.

The soldier was injured when Gazan-terrorists hurled an IED (improvised explosive device) at soldiers on the Israeli side of the border along with grenades, all in the hope of killing as many soldiers as possible.

In the video below, we hear about the soldier’s condition from the director of the hospital, Professor Chezi Levi. He adds that fortunately (B”H), the shrapnel did not injure vital vessels and organs.

Dr. Naftali Yaakobson, who heads the hospital’s intensive care unit, adds they are now considering bringing him out of the medically induced coma since there are signs of edema. A decision will be made soon.

Levi emphasizes that the shrapnel striking the neck landed between vital anatomic vessels but missed them, as well as missing the spinal column. Prof. Levi concludes the trajectory of the shrapnel missed vital organs that would have resulted in “irreparable damage” as well as creating a “life-threatening situation”, which is not the case.
