At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in Israel, two horses ran wild on Highway 44 near the Tzrifin military base and Assaf Harofeh Hospital. The incident was caught on camera by the traffic command center of Netivei Yisrael.
Lee Valensia, who is the control supervisor for Netivei Yisrael said: “A scenario like this from our stand point is an immediate threat to the lives of those using the roadway. Hitting an animal as large as a horse could be fatal on a highway whose speed limit is quite high. Once we began to monitor the situation, we dispatched officers from the traffic division of the local police department. Thankfully, the story ended without injury and the two horses were removed from the highway without incident, thus saving lives of those using the road and of the two horses themselves.”
There have been numerous cases in the past where motor vehicles have struck animals, even ones smaller than horses, and in many cases, fatalities were reported. Police are currently investigating the incident and trying to determine who the horses belong to and why they were running wild on the Highway without supervision.
