After Tiveria Mayor Ron Kobi announced plans to begin operating public transportation on Shabbos R”L, MK Uri Maklev visited the city and was audible in his criticism of the mayor, who is focusing efforts on Chilul Shabbos and his anti-chareidi agenda.
After Kobi made his declaration regarding public transportation on Shabbos, Maklev visited the city and met with religious and chareidi officials to inquire as to their plan in dealing with the newly-elected mayor.
Maklev explained that he thought there was only a need to strengthen the Shabbos in Tel Aviv, but now, clearly, Tiveria joins the list as the mayor as an agenda that is a far cry from Kedushas Shabbos.
Maklev lamented the fact that everyone is aware of the financial issues that plague the northern city, yet the mayor prefers to concentrate his energies on attacking Shabbos rather than addressing the fiscal issues, which are urgent.
He added that Tel Aviv has taught everyone what occurs when the stores begin opening, and how families can no longer sit together at the table because they have to be at work to compete with the stores that open their doors on Shabbos. He calls for “increasing the light in the city, increasing the Torah in the city”.
Maklev calls on the tzibur to come to the city so their presence is felt, by the hotels and businesses, which will have to accommodate the frum tzibur and by doing this, “the light will drive out the darkness”.
