Human Rights Watchdog: GSS Uses Relatives to Obtain Confessions

The Knesset Law Committee on Sunday will address a report released by a human rights watchdog which claims the intelligence agency is using relatives of detainees to obtain confessions.

According to the 83-page report, there are documented cases in which detainees are told their wives or other relatives are being held under harsh conditions pending their confession for alleged crimes or involvement in terrorism.

The report states the methods used by the GSS are unacceptable and a violation of both Israeli and international law – calling upon the government to begin monitoring the GSS, stating the current process of non-accountability may not be permitted to continue.
